Back to School Shopping, All Day: Take advantage of Florida’s “Tax Free Weekend” which begins today and runs through Sunday. This is a great opportunity to grab new school clothes and shoes and school supplies! Click here to learn more about which items at which prices can be purchased without sales tax!

ArtsPark Funtastic Friday and Movie Night 5:00pm – 10:00pm: Bring the whole family, and some friends, to ArtsPark for music, face painting, bounce houses and games. The movie “Epic” will be shown at 8:00pm. Information available here.

First Friday Food Trucks, 5:00pm – 9:00pm: Visit the parking lot at Flamingo Gardens for an evening of food and music. Buy your dinner from one of the yummy food trucks and bring your chairs and hang out and listen to some music. This recurring event is a family favorite and a great way to kick off your weekend. Friday Night Sound Waves, 6:00pm – 9:00pm: Enjoy this free concert at the intersection of Las Olas Boulevard and AIA. This event, which recurs every Friday evening, features a different performer each time. Click here for more details.

Tarzan, 7:00pm: Visit the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and see some amazingly talented children perform the musical Tarzan. And guess what, Tarzan DOES swing from a rope through the trees! Visit their website for additional details. Note, because this show is performed by children, tickets are extremely reasonable.

Starlight Musicals, 7:00pm -10:00pm: These free concerts, which take place on Friday evenings through August 10th at Holiday Park (east Sunrise Blvd and Federal Highway) are a great way to bring in the weekend. Back to School Roundup for Schools in Sunrise, 10:00am – 1:00pm: With rides, music, and games there may not be a more fun way to kick off the school year. If you live in Sunrise, this event is a must! For more details, visit their website.

Orange Bowl Family Fun and Fit Day, 11:00am – 1:00pm: Free to the public, this event (held at the Betty T. Ferguson Recreational Complex in Miami Gardens, is a great way to get ready for school. There will be food trucks, games, face painting and so much more. And, kids can even get a free haircut! Take a look at their flyer here.

Young at Art Museum’s Back to School Bash, 10:00am – 6:00pm: This day long event, which is free with a paid admission to the museum in Davie, offers visitors the chance to make some super-cute back to school crafts, including bracelets and pencil toppers. Magic Illusion Show with Gary Midnight Magic, 11:30am -12:15pm and 12:30pm – 1:15pm: Visit the Pembroke Pines library for this fabulous magic show, perfect for all ages. There will be two shows, and tickets will be distributed prior to the shows. For details, click here.

KidsFest, 1:00pm – 5:00pm: Bowlero, in Davie, is hosting this fun event where kids can bowl for free an adults can join them for a discount. Snacks are discounted too! Visit their website for details.

It’s Circus, It’s Science, 2:00pm – 3:00pm: Visit the Alvin Sherman Library Research and Technology Center for this hour long family event. You can learn about the science of the circus – with clowns!! Click here for additional details!

West Side Story, 2:00pm: The Susan B. Katz Theater in Pembroke Pines is the site of this beloved musical. Additional showtimes throughout the weekend and into next week are available. Visit their website for details and ticket information.

The Wizard of Oz Outdoor Movie Night, 8:00pm – 10:00pm: The Frank Art Gallery is presenting an outdoor showing of this family favorite. The movie will be preceded, at 7:30pm, by a performance by Ballet Florida Dance Company. Admission is free, and snacks and water and soda will be available for purchase. Dream Car Classic, 10:00am – 3:00pm: This car show, which recurs the first Sunday of the month, takes place on Hollywood Boulevard between 19th and 20th Avenues. Admission is free, although there is a $20 fee to show your car! Looking for more information? Click here.

South Beach Mango Festival, 11:00am – 7:00pm: Visit Lummus Park at 12th and Ocean Drive for the Mango Festival! Kids 7 and under get in free! There will be food, fun, music and more! Visit their website for more information including ticket details.

Broward Center Tour, 11:15am: Are you a theater enthusiast? If so, this free tour of the Broward Center is the perfect Sunday activity. Meet in the main lobby of the Au Rene Theater. Details available here.

Symphony of the America’s Summerfest Concert, 2:00pm: The Sunrise Civic Center theater is hosting this amazing musical event. There will be musicians and soloists from around the world. Visit the city’s calendar for more details.
